Police Rescue Nine Kidnap Victims, Arrest 10 Suspects Across Five States

The police have rescued nine kidnapped victims, arrested several suspected criminals and recovered firearms, ammunition and a stolen vehicle in a series of operations across 10 states in the past 24 hours.

In Benue State, police operatives rescued eight victims abducted when gunmen attacked a commercial bus in Omla Forest, Ankpechi Ogobia, Ohimini Local Government Area.

The victims were evacuated for medical attention, although one of them, 34-year-old Uche Okike, died from gunshot injuries sustained during the attack.

In Kwara, joint police, military and vigilante teams rescued another kidnapped victim who escaped from his abductors during a search operation in the Idofin Aiyekale area.

Meanwhile, police in Sokoto repelled a bandit attack on Bagayawa Village, Wamakko LGA, during Maulud celebrations.

Two people were killed, two others sustained gunshot injuries, while an unspecified number of domestic animals were rustled.

Across other operations, the police arrested wanted armed robbery and cultism suspects in Enugu, Ekiti, Kaduna, Cross River and Bauchi, recovering a cut-to-size pump-action gun, ammunition, locally made pistols and a knife.

In Nasarawa State, detectives also recovered a 2017 Toyota Corolla allegedly stolen during an armed robbery in Abuja.

The Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Ani Iniedu, said the various operations were part of ongoing efforts to protect lives and property and bring perpetrators to justice.
