APEC Mourns Cross River Energy Commissioner, Prince Williams Eka
The death of a senior energy official has left Nigeria’s power sector mourning the loss of a key voice in the push for improved electricity access and sustainable energy development.
The Abuja Power and Energy Correspondents (APEC) has expressed deep shock over the death of the Cross River State Commissioner for Energy and Power, Hon. Prince Williams Eka.
Eka, who also served as chairman of the commissioners of energy and power in Nigeria, reportedly died in Abuja on Sunday, September 13, 2026, after collapsing and being rushed to a hospital in the Federal Capital Territory.
In a statement signed by APEC Secretary, Raphael Ekpang, the association described Eka as a distinguished public servant and passionate advocate for the development of Nigeria’s energy sector.
APEC said his tenure was marked by efforts to advance Cross River’s energy agenda and highlight the role of reliable electricity in driving investment, job creation, economic growth and improved living standards.
The association also praised his engagement with the media, describing him as a public official who understood the importance of accurate information, accountability and constructive collaboration in addressing challenges across the electricity value chain.
APEC extended its condolences to the Cross River State Government, Eka’s colleagues, friends, associates and family, praying for strength for those affected by the loss.
It added: “May the soul of Hon. Prince Eka rest in eternal peace.”
