Police Arrest 17 Suspects, Rescue Kidnap Victim, Recover Ammunition, Weapons In Nationwide Operations
Police operations across several states have led to multiple arrests, the rescue of a kidnapped victim and the recovery of firearms, ammunition, stolen vehicles and livestock, according to the Nigeria Police Force.
In Zamfara, officers intercepted a vehicle at a checkpoint in Maru Local Government Area and arrested three suspects after recovering 1,123 rounds of 7.62mm AK-47 ammunition concealed inside the vehicle.
In Katsina, tactical teams arrested four suspected bandits in two separate operations. One suspect was arrested after a gun duel with bandits who fled with gunshot injuries, while 15 cows and 35 sheep believed to have been rustled were recovered.
Three other suspects were arrested over the abduction of an elderly man, with police alleging that the group collected ₦3 million ransom before releasing him after 16 days in captivity.
Police also rescued a kidnapped victim in Oyo after security operatives combed surrounding bushes, forcing the abductors to flee.
In Imo, three suspected armed robbers were arrested at a hideout where police recovered 13 stolen motorcycles, an unregistered Toyota Sienna bus, motorcycle spare parts and other exhibits.
Further arrests and recoveries were recorded in Gombe, Delta and the Federal Capital Territory.
Gombe police recovered a motorcycle, two locally made explosive devices and stolen armoured cables, while Delta officers recovered a pump-action gun and 18 live cartridges from a suspect.
In Abuja, police arrested suspects linked to alleged culpable homicide and an attempted theft of a Toyota Sienna at the National Stadium.
In Sokoto, detectives also arrested a suspect over an alleged unnatural offence involving a five-year-old child.
The police said the child received treatment at a general hospital and was discharged.
The Force said investigations into the cases are ongoing.
