Army Refutes Report Of Clerics’ Abduction At Yari’s Residence

The Nigerian Army has dismissed reports that Islamic scholars were abducted from the residence of former Zamfara State Governor and Senator Abdul’aziz Abubakar Yari in Talata Mafara, describing the claim as false.

In a statement on Sunday, Lieutenant Colonel Olaniyi Osoba, Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, 8 Division, said no cleric was abducted at Yari’s residence.

He said intelligence reports indicated that some persons were abducted while travelling from the Sububu forest axis in Bakura Local Government Area towards Talata Mafara.

According to the Army, troops, working with other security agencies and local intelligence networks, have intensified efforts to rescue the victims.

The military urged the public to disregard sensationalised and unverified reports, warning that such narratives could cause unnecessary panic and compromise ongoing tactical operations.

It also appealed to residents to remain vigilant and provide security agencies with timely, actionable intelligence to support efforts to rescue the abducted persons.
