A push to choke terrorist networks in Nigeria’s North-West has yielded fresh arrests and weapons recoveries, with troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA intercepting an ammunition courier carrying 300 rounds and arresting at least 15 suspects across four states.

The operations, conducted between 4 and 10 September, targeted terrorist hideouts, collaborators, informants and arms couriers in Kaduna, Katsina, Sokoto and Zamfara states.

According to the Director, Defence Media Operations, Major General Michael Onoja, troops in Katsina attacked a suspected terrorist hideout in Yantumaki Forest, Danmusa Local Government Area, on 4 September, killing one suspect while others fled. Motorcycles and medical supplies were also recovered.

In Sokoto, troops recovered motorcycles, rifles and a machine gun after engaging terrorists in Magarya Forest and along the Gundumi Road.

The operation also disrupted an alleged abduction attempt in Zamfara, while troops in Katsina intercepted a truck carrying four motorcycles concealed among fuel and oil consignments reportedly headed for Zamfara.
Follow-up operations led to 12 further arrests.

In Kaduna, soldiers arrested a suspected terrorist collaborator and later intercepted an alleged ammunition courier along the Birnin Gwari axis, recovering 300 rounds of ammunition concealed in her belongings.

The military said the operations are part of sustained efforts to disrupt terrorism, arms trafficking and kidnapping across the North-West, in collaboration with other security agencies.
