Nigeria, UAE Move To Deepen Trade, Investment Ties
Nigeria and the United Arab Emirates are seeking to turn growing trade and investment into deeper economic cooperation, with both countries pushing to remove outstanding hurdles to stronger business ties.
The commitment emerged when the UAE Ambassador to Nigeria, Salem Saeed Alshamsi, met with the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Sola Enikanolaiye, in Abuja on Wednesday.
Alshamsi said bilateral trade had risen from about $3 billion in 2024 to $4.3 billion, and reached approximately $5 billion in 2025.
He also urged progress on the Nigeria-UAE Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA), already ratified by the UAE.
Both sides discussed the proposed commencement of Emirates Airline operations in Abuja, as well as cooperation in artificial intelligence, digital technology, infrastructure, energy and financial services.
Enikanolaiye said Nigeria was committed to concluding the processes required for CEPA implementation and called for an early meeting of the Nigeria-UAE Joint Commission.
The two countries also welcomed progress in resolving previous visa-related challenges, which they said would ease travel for business, investment and tourism.
