Good governance has again taken centre stage in world football, with the Confederation of African Football (CAF) throwing its weight behind FIFA’s leadership following concerns over the proposed FIFA Forward Enterprise (FFE).

CAF’s Executive Committee (EXCO) unanimously endorsed the joint update issued by FIFA President Gianni Infantino and Secretary General Mattias Grafström, while reaffirming its commitment to strengthening African football through transparency, accountability and global governance best practices.

In the statement, FIFA acknowledged that mistakes were made during the process leading to the proposed establishment of the FIFA Forward Enterprise, admitting that the FIFA Council and Member Associations should not have felt excluded.

The football governing body apologised for the lapses, pledged to review the process, and confirmed that the proposal has been withdrawn.

FIFA also maintained that all actions taken complied with its regulatory framework.

CAF welcomed the clarification and said it would continue working towards making African football one of the strongest in the world while upholding the highest standards of governance.
