Bandit Power Struggle Deepens As Kachalla Sani Yellow Is Killed In Zamfara
The killing of notorious bandit commander Kachalla Sani Yellow has exposed the deepening power struggle among armed groups in Zamfara State, even as conflicting accounts emerge over how the feared warlord met his end.
Yellow was reportedly killed on Friday, 10 July, in Anka Local Government Area, where he had long been linked to deadly attacks, mass kidnappings and cattle rustling.
Local sources claimed he was ambushed and shot dead at Dan Jibga Market by gunmen suspected to be loyal to rival bandit leader Dogo Gide.
However, security sources offered a different account, saying Yellow was neutralised during a coordinated counter-banditry operation involving security personnel and Maiduguri Special Vigilantes.
Authorities have yet to officially clarify the circumstances of his death.
Yellow was believed to wield considerable influence across forests spanning Anka, Bukkuyum, Maru and neighbouring areas, where his group allegedly coordinated attacks that killed residents, displaced communities and fuelled the region’s kidnapping crisis.
Meanwhile, fresh violence has reportedly erupted in Tsafe Local Government Area, where suspected bandits killed at least two residents and abducted more than 60 others.
Local sources linked the attacks to possible reprisals following the recent killing of prominent bandit commanders.
Troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA and the police have reportedly intensified patrols and launched operations to rescue the abducted victims and prevent further attacks.
