Police Approves Nationwide Safe School Clubs To Boost Student Safety
The Nigeria Police Force has approved the nationwide rollout of the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) Safe School Club Initiative, marking a major step towards strengthening security and safety awareness in schools across the country.
The final approval was granted by the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, during a meeting at the Force Headquarters in Abuja, where he also endorsed the official Safe School Club uniform, including its distinctive Fez cap, and approved a specially designed traffic safety banner to help protect pupils while crossing roads.
The police chief urged the PCRC to build a membership of more than 10,000 participants for the initiative while ensuring effective coordination and accountability.
He also directed that security coding and identification features be embedded in the uniforms to prevent misuse and pledged the full support of the Nigeria Police Force for the programme.
Responding, PCRC National Chairman, Alhaji Mogaji Ibraheem Olaniyan, thanked the IGP for backing the initiative and assured him that the committee would work with relevant police departments and stakeholders to ensure its successful implementation.
He also commended the PCRC Rivers State Chairman, Dr. Voke, who led the IGP Special Assignment Committee, and the National Coordinator of the Safe School Initiative, Amb. Chief Samuel Olaoluwa Akintoye, for their contributions to the project’s success.
According to the statement signed by Arákùnrin Badmus Omoniyi Saburi, S.S.A. on Media and Strategies to the PCRC National Chairman, the initiative is expected to enhance school safety, promote security consciousness among students and deepen community participation in policing nationwide.
