CISLAC Condemns Sowore Court Assault, Kaduna Lynching, Warns Rule Of Law Under Threat
Nigeria’s democratic institutions face growing scrutiny as the Civil Society Legislative Advocacy Centre (CISLAC) has condemned the alleged assault on activist and African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, inside the Federal High Court in Abuja, alongside the mob lynching of a woman in Kaduna State, warning that both incidents reflect a dangerous erosion of the rule of law.
In a statement, CISLAC Executive Director and Head of Transparency International Nigeria, Comrade Auwal Musa Rafsanjani, described reports that security operatives dragged and manhandled Sowore after court proceedings as inconsistent with democratic principles, saying such actions undermine judicial integrity, civic freedoms and public confidence in the justice system.
Rafsanjani also decried the lynching of Ummulkhairi Muhammad in Maraban Jos, Kaduna State, alleging that an angry mob forcefully removed her from police custody before killing and burning her over accusations of child theft.
The organisation called for independent investigations into both incidents and urged authorities to hold all those responsible accountable, while strengthening the protection of civic rights, judicial independence and public safety.
