Operation CLEAN SWEEP: Troops Eliminate Bandit Kingpins, Seize Weapons In Katsina Forest Offensive
Sustained military pressure is tightening the noose around terrorist and bandit networks in Nigeria’s North-West, with troops recording fresh gains in a major offensive deep inside Katsina State forests.
Troops of the 8 Division Strike Force under Sector 2 of Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have neutralised several notorious bandit kingpins and recovered a cache of weapons during a raid on criminal hideouts in Ginchawa, Fafu and Matazu forests.
The operation, codenamed Operation CLEAN SWEEP, was carried out in the early hours of Monday as part of ongoing efforts to dismantle terrorist enclaves and restore security across the region.
Military sources said the troops launched coordinated assaults on identified strongholds, triggering a fierce gun battle that lasted several hours.
Overwhelmed by superior firepower and tactical manoeuvres, the bandits reportedly fled their camps, with troops pursuing and neutralising several key commanders.
A subsequent exploitation of the area led to the recovery of two PKT machine guns, an AK-47 rifle with magazines, communication radios, mobile phones, three motorcycles, large quantities of ammunition and rustled livestock.
Notably, no casualties or equipment losses were recorded among the troops.
Military authorities described the operation as another significant blow to criminal networks operating in the North-West, stressing that follow-up operations are ongoing to track down fleeing terrorists and deny them freedom of movement.
They reaffirmed the commitment of Operation FANSAN YAMMA to sustain offensive operations until lasting peace and security are restored across the region.
