Ekiti Poll: Police Assure Tight Security As EU Observers Assess Readiness
With just hours to the Ekiti State governorship election, the Nigeria Police Force has reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring a peaceful, credible and violence-free electoral process, as a delegation from the European Union (EU) visited the state to assess security preparedness.
Representing the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, the Commissioner of Police in charge of the Police Election Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation Unit received the EU delegation during a courtesy visit to the Ekiti State Police Command Headquarters in Ado-Ekiti on Friday.
Discussions centred on election security arrangements, inter-agency collaboration and strategies put in place to guarantee a free, fair and transparent poll scheduled for Saturday, 20 June 2026.
The police commissioner assured the delegation that adequate measures had been deployed to maintain law and order before, during and after the election, stressing the Force’s readiness to safeguard lives, property and the integrity of the electoral process.
The EU delegation commended the Nigeria Police Force for its preparedness and ongoing efforts to create a secure environment for the successful conduct of the governorship election.
