Youth Delegates Push For Digital Education Reforms At PAIMUN 2026 In Abuja

As the world increasingly relies on technology to shape learning and development, young delegates at the Second Regular Session of the Premiere Academy International Model United Nations (PAIMUN) 2026 General Assembly have called for urgent reforms to bridge the digital divide in education.

The event, held at the United Nations Information Centre Nigeria in collaboration with the Premiere Academy, focused on the theme: “Digital Transformation of the Educational Sector as a Driver of Sustainable Development.”

Speaking at the session, Muriel Mafico urged delegates to become innovators and bridge-builders capable of designing solutions that reach every child, regardless of location or background.

Representing the UN Resident Coordinator, she stressed that digital transformation should reduce inequality rather than deepen it, while commending platforms like PAIMUN for nurturing diplomacy, dialogue, and consensus-building skills among young people.

Premiere Academy Principal, Christopher Akinsowon, described education as the foundation of national development and encouraged delegates to think beyond borders in proposing sustainable solutions to global challenges.

In a video message, António Guterres praised the delegates for embracing global cooperation, noting that Model UN simulations help prepare young people to build a better future.

PAIMUN General Assembly President, Timilehin Adewuyi, highlighted the need to close the digital gap in order to achieve sustainable development goals, while Secretary General, Chidinma Udeji called on Member States to invest in teacher training, community technology centres, and indigenous digital content.

The delegates also adopted Resolution A/2/01, urging UN Member States to integrate digital strategies into national education systems, expand digital literacy initiatives, and strengthen public-private partnerships to improve access to educational technologies.
