IGP Disu Tightens Police Discipline As 1,068 Retrained Constables Pass Out In Akwa Ibom

In a renewed push to rebuild public confidence in policing, the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has warned officers against the misuse of firearms and extra-judicial conduct, insisting that professionalism and respect for human rights must define modern policing in Nigeria.

The IGP gave the warning, during the passing-out ceremony of 1,068 retrained Police Constables at the Police Mobile Force Base, 26 PMF, Uyo, in Akwa Ibom State.

Earlier, Disu had paid a courtesy visit to Governor Umo Eno, during which both leaders discussed strengthening collaboration to support ongoing policing reforms focused on accountability, intelligence-led operations, and operational efficiency.

Addressing the retrained officers, the police boss, stated that the exercise was designed to enhance operational competence, discipline, weapons handling, and compliance with Force Order 237.

He stressed that the Nigeria Police Force would maintain zero tolerance for abuse of power, warning that any officer found guilty of unlawful conduct would face dismissal and prosecution.

Disu also commended the Commissioner of Police in the state, Baba Mohammed Azare, for successfully implementing the retraining programme, especially the inclusion and performance of female officers.

The IGP further praised recent security successes in the state, including the rescue of kidnapped victims along the Calabar-Oron waterways, describing the achievements as evidence of effective intelligence-led policing and inter-agency cooperation.
