Blood On The Plateau: IGP Disu Storms Jos, Orders Relentless Hunt For Killers
In a region long haunted by cycles of violence, every fresh attack on the Plateau is not just a tragedy, it is a test of Nigeria’s resolve to secure its people.
The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has taken charge on the ground in Plateau State following the deadly assault on the Angwan Rukuba community in Jos North, which claimed innocent lives.
Arriving in the state, the police chief condemned the killings and met with Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang to express condolences.
He proceeded to the affected community for a direct assessment, signalling urgency at the highest level of policing.
Disu revealed that security forces had mounted an immediate response after distress calls, deploying top-ranking officers and tactical units, including the Police Mobile Force and Special Intervention Squad, in coordination with the military.
The intervention, he said, has helped to stabilise the situation.
However, he made it clear that the operation is far from over. Intelligence-led efforts are ongoing to track down those behind the attack, with a firm directive that operations will continue until peace is fully restored.
In a stern warning, the IGP cautioned youths against reprisals, stressing that taking the law into their own hands could ignite further violence and derail fragile peace efforts.
Governor Mutfwang, while commending the swift response of security agencies, pointed to deeper structural gaps.
He renewed calls for state policing and advanced surveillance technology, including infrared-enabled drones, to better tackle insecurity across the state’s challenging terrain.
As tensions simmer, the message from authorities is clear: justice will be pursued, but peace must be protected.
