FCC Moves To Crush Job Racketeering, Opens Whistleblower Lines

Nigeria’s battle against illegal recruitment in the public service has received a renewed push as the Federal Character Commission (FCC) unveiled whistleblower lines to expose job racketeering and pledged improved welfare for its workforce.

The Executive Chairman of the Commission, Hulayat Motunrayo Omidiran, announced the measure during the Commission’s first-ever General Staff Meeting at the FCC headquarters in Abuja, where employees across all cadres and commissioners representing different states gathered.

Addressing the staff, Omidiran emphasised that protecting the integrity of Nigeria’s recruitment process remains central to the Commission’s constitutional mandate.

“The Federal Character Commission was established to guarantee fairness, equity and justice in public service recruitment. Anyone involved in job racketeering is undermining the law and betraying the trust of Nigerians,” she said.

To strengthen transparency and accountability, the FCC chairman announced dedicated whistleblower lines for both staff and the public to confidentially report illegal recruitment activities.

According to her, the Commission will treat such reports seriously, insisting that integrity must remain the foundation of its work.

Omidiran also assured staff that improving their welfare is a key priority of her administration, noting that a motivated workforce is essential for the Commission to effectively deliver on its national mandate.

She described the meeting as a significant step towards strengthening communication and rebuilding trust between management and staff.

“This is the first time in many years that a General Staff Meeting is bringing everyone together, regardless of cadre.

It is important that we create platforms where we can listen to one another and move forward together as one Commission,” she added.

Speaking on behalf of staff, the Chairman of the Tripartite Union, Ameh Benson, commended the FCC leadership for prioritising workers’ welfare since assuming office in January 2026.

Benson highlighted recent capacity-building efforts, including digital skills training organised in partnership with the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), which he said has helped staff remain relevant in today’s technology-driven workplace.

He also praised the Commission’s management for resolving the long-standing water supply challenge at the headquarters through the provision of a new borehole.

The Commission also released two whistleblower numbers for reporting suspected recruitment racketeering: +234 915 763 8393 and +234 913 861 0089.
