2027: Voters Vow To End ‘Business As Usual’ For Underperforming Lawmakers
As the election season edges closer, frustration among Nigerian voters is hardening into resolve.
With trust in political promises wearing thin, constituents say 2027 will mark a decisive break from excuses and underperformance in legislative chambers across the country.
In a strongly worded commentary titled “Holding Legislators Accountable: No More Excuses in 2027”, civic voice Nwauwa Ikedi Justice said voters are determined to prioritise performance over rhetoric in the next general elections.
He criticised lawmakers at both state and federal levels who, in his view, lack the capacity to sponsor impactful bills or actively contribute to debates, yet rely on oversight functions to project relevance to their constituents.
According to the writer, oversight alone cannot substitute for core legislative responsibilities such as lawmaking, representation and addressing pressing national concerns.
He argued that some legislators have failed to deliver on campaign promises and now hide behind routine oversight visits to mask inaction, warning that such “lame-duck” lawmakers will face rejection at the polls.
Justice maintained that voters are demanding tangible results in areas including economic growth, security and social welfare, stressing that “business as usual” will no longer be tolerated.
He added that constituents are ready to reclaim their mandates by voting out representatives who offer excuses instead of measurable impact.
With the 2027 elections approaching, the message from the electorate is clear: accountability begins now.
Lawmakers must step up and deliver meaningful outcomes or make way for leaders prepared to serve with competence and commitment, the writer concluded.
