Police Arrest Suspects, Recover Arms, Rescue 12 Abducted Victims Across States
From firearms recovered to abducted victims reunited with their families, police operations across several states have yielded a string of arrests, recoveries and rescues in the past few days.
According to an operational summary released by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Ani Iniedu, police operatives recorded successes in 12 separate incidents between 15 and 17 August 2026.
In Kogi State, sustained security pressure led to the release of 12 abducted victims at Abocho in Dekina Local Government Area. The victims were debriefed at the Divisional Police Headquarters before being reunited with their families.
Police also recovered a significant cache of weapons in Niger State, including an AK-47 rifle, a magazine containing 19 rounds of live ammunition, an empty magazine and 55 rounds of RPG ammunition.
In Anambra State, a 49-year-old man was arrested at Obosi, Idemili North LGA, with a pump-action gun and 50 live cartridges.
Two separate operations in Oyo State also resulted in the arrest of suspected criminals. A suspected armed robber was arrested in Ibadan with a Beretta pistol and a locally fabricated gun, while a suspected arms fabricator was arrested with five locally made single-barrel guns and two live cartridges.
Other operations recorded the arrest of three suspected vandals in the FCT, the recovery of a truck allegedly used for illegally disposing of oil-contaminated sludge in Delta State, and the arrest of three suspects linked to the theft of a motorcycle in Ogun State.
In Benue, police engaged suspected bandits in a gun duel along the Otukpo-Adoka Road, resulting in the death of one suspected bandit and the recovery of an AK-47 rifle and three rounds of ammunition.
Meanwhile, eight of 11 suspects who escaped from lawful custody at a police facility in Ughelli, Delta State, have been re-arrested.
The police also rescued a motorist from mob action following a road accident in Karsana District of the FCT and arrested a boat captain and two crew members following a boat mishap in Bayelsa State.
The affected cases are being investigated by the respective State Criminal Investigation Departments.
