Tension In Ihiala As Police Nab Suspected Gunman, Recover Weapons
In a renewed push to curb armed criminal activities in Anambra State, police operatives have arrested a 25-year-old suspected gunman believed to be linked to a proscribed secessionist group.
The early-morning operation, driven by intelligence, has again highlighted the persistent security threats facing communities in the state.
According to a statement by Police Spokesperson SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the suspect, Friday Nnamdi Anyikame, was intercepted by the Rapid Response Squad in Awkuzu on 20 November 2025. Officers recovered two pump-action guns and 29 live cartridges from him at the point of arrest.
Ikenga said the suspect confessed to being an active member of an armed group and admitted operating from a criminal camp in Ogbaru Local Government Area.
His disclosures are already assisting investigations aimed at uncovering additional hideouts.
Reacting to the arrest, Commissioner of Police CP Ikioye Orutugu praised the operatives for their swift response and ordered intensified surveillance and raid operations across the state.
He assured residents that the command is closing in on other fleeing members of the group.
The CP urged the public to remain watchful and continue providing credible information to support ongoing security efforts in Anambra State.
