INEC Denounces Fake Letter On Ekiti PDP Congress, Warns Against Electoral Mischief

At a time when public trust in electoral processes remains fragile, misinformation has once again reared its head, this time in the form of a forged document falsely claiming to originate from Nigeria’s electoral umpire.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has swiftly moved to dispel the circulating letter which alleges a postponement of the Ekiti State PDP Congress and governorship primary.

INEC, in a statement issued on Friday and signed by the Director of Voter Education and Publicity, Mrs Victoria Eta-Messi, clarified that the correspondence dated 10 November 2025 and purportedly signed by the Secretary to the Commission did not emanate from any official channel.

Preliminary investigations, the Commission said, revealed that the signature of the Secretary was criminally forged.

The Commission urged the public, political parties, and the media to disregard the document in its entirety, describing it as fake and designed to mislead.

INEC condemned the act as a serious electoral offence and a deliberate attempt to sow confusion ahead of crucial political activities.

It appealed to those responsible for circulating forged documents to desist, warning that such actions undermine electoral integrity and could threaten public peace.

The Commission further disclosed that it is working closely with security agencies to uncover the individuals behind the forgery, with a view to ensuring they are prosecuted according to the law.
