FG Sets Up Committee To Enforce Health Sector Agreements

The Federal Government has inaugurated an Inter-Ministerial Committee to oversee the full implementation of agreements reached with health sector unions, in a bid to maintain industrial harmony and boost healthcare delivery nationwide.

Chaired by Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, Dr Izaq Adekunle Salako, the committee includes representatives from key government offices such as the Ministry of Labour and Employment, the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, the National Salaries, Income and Wages Commission, the Ministry of Finance, the Office of the Accountant General, and the Budget Office.

The move follows recent talks between the government and leaders of all health sector unions and associations. Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Professor Muhammad Ali Pate, reiterated President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to improving the welfare of health workers, describing them as central to the ‘Renewed Hope Agenda’ for the sector.

Pate noted that recent reforms have already begun attracting patients from across West Africa, Europe and the United States to Nigerian hospitals. “Significant investments have gone into infrastructure, equipment, services, and welfare — and more will follow,” he said.

Minister of State for Humanitarian Affairs, Dr Tanko Yusuf Sununu, stressed that consistent implementation and sustained dialogue between government and unions were essential for lasting industrial peace.
