Gilbert Rugby Donates 1,000 Balls To Boost Grassroots Rugby In Nigeria
In a massive win for grassroots sport, world-renowned rugby brand Gilbert Rugby has donated 1,000 rugby balls to the Nigeria Rugby Football Federation (NRFF), giving the country’s rugby development efforts a significant shot in the arm.
The donation, officially handed over to an NRFF representative in the United Kingdom, is part of Gilbert’s ongoing global mission to support the growth of rugby in emerging nations.
Known as the official ball supplier for every Rugby World Cup since 1995, Gilbert’s gesture signals strong international backing for Nigeria’s rugby ambitions.
NRFF President, Dr Ademola Are, described the donation as a “game-changing gesture,” saying it reinforces Nigeria’s potential as a future force in the sport.
“This is more than just equipment—it’s a powerful endorsement of our vision. With support like this, we can build the future of rugby in Nigeria from the grassroots up,” he said.
The NRFF has already kick-started a nationwide distribution, delivering the balls to schools, academies, and local clubs across the country through its zonal coordinators.
States like Kano and Lagos have received their consignments, with more on the way.
NRFF General Manager, Azeez Ladipo, highlighted the federation’s inclusive approach:
“We’re making sure these balls reach the heart of local communities—where the next rugby stars are being moulded. It’s about access, opportunity, and long-term growth.”
The partnership marks another milestone in Nigeria’s bold strategy to grow participation, develop talent, and raise the profile of rugby nationwide.
With Gilbert Rugby now in its corner, Nigeria’s rugby future is looking more promising than ever.
