NFF Flags Off Coach Educators’ Course In Abuja, Joins Africa’s Elite In Coaching Development
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has officially launched its second edition of the Coach Educators’ Course in Abuja, becoming only the sixth African country to roll out the prestigious programme.
The opening ceremony was presided over by NFF General Secretary, Dr Mohammed Sanusi, who described the initiative as a strategic move to raise the standard of coaching in Nigeria.
Reflecting on his own experience as a member of the inaugural batch, Dr Sanusi praised the evolution of coaching education in the country.
“This is not just another coaching course,” he noted. “It’s a scientific, structured process that goes beyond tactics and techniques. We’re focusing on how knowledge is transferred, how coaches are trained to teach others effectively. It’s about developing elite educators, not just coaches.”
He emphasised that participants would be assessed based on their ability to teach, not just absorb information, and those who excel will have opportunities to progress to advanced courses.
CAF Expert Michael Amenga, National Technical Director Augustine Eguavoen, and other top NFF officials including Dr Terry Eguaoje, Paulinus Anameje, and Barr. Okey Obi were present at the event, alongside 15 eager participants set to benefit from the rigorous training.
Dr Sanusi concluded with a charge to participants: “Let this not be business as usual. We expect to see transformation—not just in your knowledge, but in your attitudes and your ability to impact others.”
The course is being facilitated by CAF, and expectations are high that it will usher in a new era of coach education in Nigeria.
