Three Transmission Towers Collapse, Disrupt Power Supply To Keffi, Akwanga
Electricity supply to parts of Nasarawa State has been disrupted after three transmission towers collapsed along the Karu-Keffi-Akwanga 132kV transmission line corridor.
The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) said Towers T78, T79 and T80 collapsed on Wednesday during rainy and windy conditions, leaving all 33kV outgoing feeders at the Keffi and Akwanga transmission substations unavailable.
According to TCN, the transmission line tripped at about 4:06pm on Wednesday after its overcurrent relay protection was activated. Engineers investigating the incident subsequently discovered the collapsed towers, prompting the company to isolate the affected section for safety.
TCN said its engineers are already at the site assessing the damage and determining what is required for restoration.
The company said no load can currently be nominated on the affected feeders, while efforts are being made to restore bulk power supply as quickly as possible.
TCN apologised to electricity consumers affected by the incident and said further updates would be issued as restoration work progresses.
