Katsina Traditional Rulers Praise Security Forces For Foiling Mass Abduction

Security forces have rescued 18 captives, including women and children, after foiling an attempted mass abduction in Bakori Local Government Area of Katsina State.

The operation, involving the military, Department of State Services (DSS) and community-based security groups, followed intelligence on the movement of suspected armed bandits towards Unguwan Hudu village in Kakumi Ward.

Traditional rulers in the area commended the security agencies for their swift, intelligence-led response, which reportedly forced the attackers to abandon the captives and flee.

A district head in Bakori said sustained cooperation among security agencies, traditional institutions and local communities had helped prevent attacks on farming settlements.

Another traditional ruler said the suspected attackers, allegedly led by a bandit identified as Rabiu, fled after security operatives intercepted their route.

The 18 rescued victims comprised 14 females and four males, including children and toddlers. One of them, 14-year-old Zainab Ashiru, reportedly sustained a gunshot wound and is receiving treatment at General Hospital, Bakori.

Blood traces found along the escape route suggested that some fleeing bandits may have been injured, although this could not be independently confirmed.

The latest operation comes less than two weeks after security forces reportedly foiled another abduction attempt in Gidan Iyado, also in Kakumi Ward, where the Katsina State Government said 18 bandits were killed in a joint operation involving the military, DSS and Community Watch Corps.

The traditional rulers said continued collaboration and timely intelligence would be critical to protecting farming communities and disrupting bandit networks across the state.
