Comprehensive High School Ilutitun Marks 50 Years, Unveils Legacy Projects, Plans Week-Long Jubilee
Fifty years of education, leadership and community service will come under the spotlight as the Comprehensive High School, Ilutitun Old Students’ Association celebrates the school’s Golden Jubilee from September 28 to October 4, 2026.
The week-long celebration will combine commemorative activities with projects aimed at supporting the school’s future, including the dedication of a newly built and fully furnished Legacy School Gate and the CHSIOSA Corper’s Lodge.
The programme will also feature environmental sanitation tagged “Operation Let the Forest Fall,” tree and flower planting, a football match, health talk, the CHS@50 Lecture, AI and digital training for teachers, an inter-school quiz and debate competition, and the “Let’s See Ilutitun Again” rally.
Other highlights include the CHS Novelty Match, “The Old versus The New,” the Golden Jubilee celebration, fundraising and luncheon, followed by a Golden Jubilee Dinner and Networking event.
The anniversary will conclude with a Thanksgiving Service on October 4 at the Cathedral of Ebenezer, Diocese on the Coast, Ilutitun-Osooro.
Chairman of the Golden Jubilee Publicity Committee, Comrade Akinsuyi, said the anniversary was an opportunity to celebrate the school’s heritage while renewing stakeholders’ commitment to its future.
She, alongside the alumni president, High Chief Olusegun Netufo, described the 50th anniversary as a celebration of the contributions of generations of teachers, students, parents, old students and other stakeholders to the institution.
Chairman and Co-Chairman of the Anniversary Fundraising and Planning Committee, Rev. Dr Sunday Akingbelure and Dr Olorunyomi Akinboyo, respectively, also called on alumni and members of the public to support the school that, according to them, helped shape their lives.
The organisers invited old students, staff, parents, traditional institutions, government representatives, community leaders, friends of the school and residents of Ilutitun to participate in the celebration and support its development initiatives.
The anniversary is themed around “Celebrating the Past, Inspiring the Future,” with the organisers stressing that the milestone should serve not only as a celebration of five decades of achievement but also as a springboard for the next generation.
