₦6bn Fund Targets 127,105 Ogun Women To Expand Businesses, Create Jobs
More than 127,000 women in Ogun State are set to benefit from a ₦6 billion Community Investment Fund aimed at expanding businesses, creating jobs and boosting household incomes.
The fund was flagged off in Ijebu Ode on Wednesday under the Nigeria for Women Programme Scale-Up (NFWP-SU) by the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development in partnership with the Ogun State Government.
Ogun has established 5,394 Women Affinity Groups (WAGs) across seven Local Government Areas, covering 3,489 communities.
According to the Ministry, the groups have collectively saved ₦2.69 billion and disbursed more than ₦4 billion in loans among members, while 368 Ward Facilitators have been trained to support the programme.
The Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, represented at the flag-off by the Chairman of the Governing Council, Maryam Babangida National Centre for Women Development, and Special Assistant, Technical and Community Engagement, Princess Jummai Idonije, commended the Ogun Government and beneficiary groups for their commitment to women’s economic empowerment.
She urged beneficiaries to invest the funds productively, maintain transparent records and use the opportunity to expand their enterprises, increase incomes and create employment.
The Minister also called for stronger links between the Women Affinity Groups and other Federal Government interventions covering finance, markets, digital skills, agriculture and value chains, clean energy and enterprise development.
She said strengthening women’s economic participation would help build stronger families, expand local economies and improve community resilience.
The initiative is supported by the World Bank, the NFWP-SU Federal Project Coordinating Unit, Ogun State Government and other implementing partners.
