NUJ FCT Unveils 2026 Inter-Agency Football Tournament, 18 Teams Set For Action

Sport has a way of breaking down institutional barriers, and the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), FCT Council, is putting that power to work with its 2026 Inter-Agency Football Tournament.
The tournament kicks off on Tuesday, 22 September 2026, with 18 teams drawn from the media, security agencies, government institutions, professional bodies and the private sector competing for honours in Abuja.
The competition will be staged at the Area 3 Football Pitch and Old Parade Ground, Area 10, Garki, with the grand finale scheduled for Saturday, 26 September at 11am.
Speaking at the press conference and draws for the tournament on Monday, Chairman of the Organising Committee, Ndubueze Chidoka, said the competition was designed to strengthen relationships among journalists, security agencies, government organisations, professional bodies and the private sector.
Participating teams include the NUJ, Federal Road Safety Corps, Nigeria Police Force, Nigerian Air Force, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, Federal High Court, Nigeria Immigration Service, Nigeria Customs Service, Nigeria Medical Association, Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, AIBEN Properties, Nigerian Television Authority, FCT Football Coaches Association, NAWOJ, Women Football All Stars Association of Nigeria, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Nigerian Army and National Institute for Sports.
Chidoka said the tournament was also a contribution towards promoting peace, unity and friendship, stressing that sport could bring people together irrespective of professional, ethnic, religious or political differences.
He urged participating teams to observe the tournament’s rules, respect officials and opponents, and demonstrate discipline and fair play throughout the competition.
The NUJ FCT Chairman, in a separate address, described the initiative as more than a sporting event, saying it would provide journalists and partner institutions with an opportunity to relax, build relationships and promote physical wellbeing outside their regular professional environment.
He said the Council intends to make the competition an annual platform for deepening engagement between the media and other stakeholders.
The tournament is expected to attract government officials, captains of industry, dignitaries and football enthusiasts, with the winners to receive the championship trophy and medals at the grand finale on Saturday.
