Police Appoint Flutterwave CEO Olugbenga Agboola National Youth Ambassador
The fight against cybercrime is increasingly moving beyond arrests and prosecutions to the battle for the hearts and minds of young Nigerians, with the police turning to technology leaders to help shape that conversation.
Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has appointed Flutterwave founder and Chief Executive Officer, Olugbenga Agboola, OON, as the Nigeria Police Force’s National Youth Ambassador.
Disu conferred the appointment on Agboola on Monday at the Force Headquarters, Abuja, under the International Youth Day 2026, National Youth Security, Peacebuilding and Empowerment Initiative.
The initiative seeks to use credible youth role models to promote cybersecurity awareness, entrepreneurship, peacebuilding and responsible civic participation, while discouraging young Nigerians from cybercrime and other social vices.
Disu said engaging young people was critical to building safer communities, stressing that education, innovation and legitimate enterprise could provide alternatives to criminality.
He also called for stronger technological capacity among police officers, particularly in digital tools and cyber-related investigations, to improve the Force’s ability to trace digital evidence and tackle technology-enabled crimes.
Agboola, who accepted the appointment, pledged to support the initiative’s goals, particularly in youth empowerment, cybersecurity awareness, entrepreneurship and peaceful civic engagement.
The appointment marks a strategic attempt by the police to connect law enforcement with Nigeria’s technology and business community in addressing the evolving challenges of youth crime in the digital age.
