Building Collapses In Abuja Hours After FCTA Sealing Order

A building in Wuse Zone 4, Abuja, has collapsed, barely hours after the FCT Administration’s Development Control Department sealed the structure and ordered occupants to vacate.

The building reportedly came down at about 8pm on Monday, triggering an emergency rescue operation as responders raced to establish whether anyone was trapped beneath the rubble.

Men of the Federal Fire Service and other emergency personnel were deployed to the scene, while at least three ambulances stood by as efforts continued to search the debris and evacuate possible victims.

The cause of the collapse was not immediately known. Authorities had also yet to confirm any casualties as of press time.

The incident has renewed concerns about distressed and potentially unsafe buildings in Abuja, while the timing of the collapse, just hours after the structure was sealed, raises fresh questions about its condition and the circumstances surrounding the evacuation order.

Rescue operations were ongoing as of the time of filing this report.
