Troops Rescue 14 Kidnap Victims After Pursuit Along Lagos-Benin Highway
Swift military action has once again highlighted the importance of rapid intelligence-led responses in tackling Nigeria’s persistent kidnapping threat.
Troops of the Nigerian Army’s 4 Brigade, under Operation WABAIZIGAN, rescued 14 kidnap victims after pursuing suspected abductors who attacked travellers along the Lagos-Benin Expressway in Ovia North East Local Government Area of Edo State.
The Army said the troops, on routine patrol, responded to credible intelligence at about 9:30 p.m. on 30 July, forcing the kidnappers to abandon 11 victims as they fled into a nearby forest.
A follow-up clearance operation the next day led to the rescue of the remaining three victims.
All 14 victims were medically assessed, confirmed to be in stable condition and reunited with their families or allowed to continue their journeys.
Troops are continuing efforts to track down the fleeing suspects.
Commander of the 4 Brigade, Brigadier General Ahmed Balogun, praised the troops for their professionalism and bravery, assuring residents and commuters that operations would continue to deny criminals safe havens across Edo State.
