Police Reform Study Offers Blueprint For Nigeria’s Future Security Architecture
As Nigeria continues to confront evolving security threats, stronger collaboration between security institutions is emerging as a key driver of lasting police reform.
The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has reaffirmed the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to deepening collaboration with the National Defence College (NDC) and other strategic partners to strengthen policing and internal security.
Disu gave the assurance while receiving the management, directing staff, participants and support staff of the NDC at the Force Headquarters in Abuja, where discussions centred on police reform, state policing, command and coordination protocols, and other emerging internal security challenges.
During the visit, the NDC Commandant, Rear Admiral A. Ahmed, explained that the research paper presented to the IGP was produced entirely by police officers undergoing training at the college.
He said the study offers practical and implementable recommendations that could shape police reform and improve the Force’s capacity to tackle future security challenges.
The IGP described the research as timely and relevant, praising its depth, academic rigour and practical value. He said the findings would provide a solid foundation for discussions on state policing, particularly through its analysis of public concerns and lessons drawn from countries operating state police systems.
Disu reaffirmed the Force’s resolve to strengthen partnerships with the NDC and other institutions to enhance policing, improve internal security and support national development.
