Nigeria’s security challenges may differ across regions. Still, a series of police operations within the last 24 hours has highlighted the scale of crimes confronting law enforcement agencies, from banditry and kidnapping to armed robbery, vandalism and sexual violence.

The Nigeria Police Force recorded major operational successes across seven states, including the arrest of a suspected notorious IPOB/ESN kingpin, Chinonso Umeh, popularly known as “Onye Army”, in Imo State.

Police operatives recovered a revolver pistol, an AK-47 rifle, assorted ammunition and charms during the operation.

In a separate operation in Enugu State, two suspects, Asanya Nnamdi and Abugu Tochukwu, were arrested during a patrol. Police recovered a pump-action gun, 22 live cartridges, a knife, an Allen key and ₦239,200 cash.

In Kano State, operatives arrested 28-year-old Muhammad Isa, suspected of involvement in banditry and impersonating military personnel. Two alleged accomplices, identified as Atiku and Alhassan, reportedly escaped.

Items recovered from the suspect included an AK-47 magazine loaded with 30 rounds of ammunition, an additional 79 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, military uniforms, caps, a suspected fake military identity card, ATM cards and desert boots.

Meanwhile, in Oyo State, security forces rescued kidnapped farmer Owoade Mathew unhurt following sustained bush-combing operations involving the police, Amotekun Corps, vigilantes and local hunters. He has since been reunited with his family.

Police also launched investigations into a double homicide in Woko village, Niger State; an armed robbery incident in Simawa, Ogun State; and a bandit attack in Geba village, Zamfara State.

In Cross River State, police tracked and arrested a rape suspect, Henry Erim, while two suspects were arrested in Ogun State over the alleged vandalism and theft of electrical infrastructure.

The various State Criminal Investigation Departments are investigating the cases, while efforts continue to apprehend fleeing suspects and bring those arrested to justice.
