Dummy Phone Scam: Police Arrest Two Suspects For Allegedly Defrauding Customers In Adamawa
The excitement of buying a new phone can quickly turn into frustration when the device turns out to be nothing more than a worthless replica — a scam that has now landed two men in police custody in Adamawa State.
Operatives of the Adamawa State Police Command have arrested Audu Abubakar and Nasiru Hassan for allegedly defrauding unsuspecting customers by selling dummy phones disguised as genuine, functional devices.
The suspects, both residents of Bauchi Street in Yola North Local Government Area, were apprehended following complaints from victims who discovered that the phones they had purchased were non-functional replicas.
Police said many dummy phones and other exhibits were recovered from the suspects during the operation.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Kabiru Umar Hassan, has ordered a thorough investigation into the case and directed that the suspects be charged to court upon its completion.
The Command also urged members of the public to remain vigilant when purchasing mobile devices, patronise accredited dealers, thoroughly test phones before payment and always demand receipts for transactions.
