Kaduna Police Arraign 24 Over Maraban Jos Mob Killing, More Suspects Under Investigation

The deadly consequences of mob justice came into sharp focus on Tuesday as the Kaduna State Police Command arraigned 24 suspects in connection with the brutal killing of a woman in Maraban Jos, with authorities vowing to bring all those involved to justice.
The suspects were arraigned before a Magistrate Court sitting at NDA Junction, Kaduna, over their alleged roles in the 21 June 2026 incident in which a woman was reportedly killed by a violent mob after being removed from police custody.
According to the police, the defendants face charges bordering on criminal conspiracy, inciting public disturbance, mischief, destruction of public and police property, and culpable homicide.
The court adjourned the case until 21 July 2026 for further hearing and ordered that all the suspects be remanded in a correctional facility pending the determination of the matter.
The Command disclosed that more than 100 additional suspects are still under investigation for their alleged involvement in the incident and will also be prosecuted if found culpable.
Condemning the act, the Commissioner of Police, Muhammad Rabiu, warned against jungle justice, stressing that anyone who takes the law into their own hands would face the full weight of the law.
He assured the public of the Command’s commitment to securing justice for the victim and maintaining law and order across Kaduna State, while urging citizens to channel grievances through lawful means rather than resorting to violence.
