A strong security architecture is only as effective as its ability to protect every citizen.

The death of a retired senior military officer in the hands of bandits has once again highlighted the devastating human cost of insecurity in parts of Nigeria.

The Katsina State Government has confirmed the death of retired Major General Rabe Abubakar while in bandits’ captivity, describing the incident as a tragic loss to both the state and the nation.

In a statement issued by the Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Dr Nasiru Mu’azu, the government disclosed that the retired military officer died from complications arising from diabetes and hypertension during his captivity.

The statement noted that despite sustained efforts by the state government and security agencies to secure his release, the situation ended tragically.

Governor Dikko Umaru Radda expressed deep condolences to the family of the late general, describing the development as a dark moment and a reminder of the urgent need to intensify efforts against criminal elements threatening peace and security.

The governor reaffirmed the state’s commitment to working with the Federal Government and security agencies to ensure those responsible for the abduction are brought to justice.

He also assured residents that the administration remains determined to eradicate banditry and safeguard lives and property across Katsina State.

The government prayed for the repose of the deceased’s soul and urged citizens to continue supporting security agencies in the fight against insecurity.
