FRSC Gap Analysis Cuts Dangote Truck Crashes By 56%

In a country where road crashes involving heavy-duty trucks remain a major public safety concern, the latest safety performance report from the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and Dangote Group is offering a rare success story.

Dangote Group has praised the FRSC after a comprehensive Safety System Gap Analysis conducted on Dangote Cement Transport operations in September 2025 led to a sharp decline in crashes involving the company’s trucks across Nigeria.

During an appreciation visit to the FRSC National Headquarters in Abuja, the Head of Transport, Dangote Group, Mr Murillo Silva, said the partnership between both organisations was already delivering measurable results in road safety management.

According to findings from the review, the FRSC had earlier identified several operational gaps, including speed limiter violations, poor driver rest management, overloading and weak safety monitoring systems largely linked to human factors.

However, after implementing the recommendations of the Corps, crash statistics improved significantly between the first quarter of 2025 and the first quarter of 2026.

Data released showed that crashes involving Dangote trucks dropped by 56 per cent, declining from 25 recorded cases in Q1 2025 to 11 cases in Q1 2026.

Fatal crashes also reduced by 36 per cent, while the number of injured persons fell from 89 to 42, representing a 52 per cent reduction. Deaths resulting from crashes equally dropped by 60 per cent from 35 to 14 within the same period.

Reacting to the development, the Corps Marshal of the FRSC, Shehu Mohammed, described the outcome as proof that data-driven interventions and institutional collaboration remain critical to improving road safety in Nigeria.

He urged other fleet operators and transport companies to adopt proactive safety reforms capable of reducing crashes and improving operational standards on the nation’s highways.
