In a period where partnerships are increasingly shaping community development and women-focused advocacy, the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) FCT Chapter has commended the leadership of the Raw Materials Research and Development Council for supporting initiatives aimed at empowering women at the grassroots.

The appreciation came during a courtesy visit by the Chairperson of NAWOJ FCT, Comrade Bassey Ita Ikpang, and members of the association to the Director-General of the Council, Dr. Nnanyelugo Martin Ike-Muonso, following the successful NAWOJ FCT Marketplace Advocacy Programme.

Speaking during the visit, the Chairperson praised the Director-General for his support, partnership and confidence in the association’s vision, noting that the programme provided women with critical information on health, education, civic responsibility, democratic participation ahead of the 2027 elections, as well as opportunities within the raw materials value chain.

She explained that the initiative also encouraged women to embrace local production, entrepreneurship and value addition as pathways to economic growth and self-reliance.

Comrade Bassey Ita-Ikpang further highlighted the impact of a keynote presentation delivered by Dr. Grace Adebiye, Director of Gender at RMRDC, describing it as insightful and transformative for participants.

According to her, feedback from women who attended the programme showed that the advocacy empowered them with knowledge and motivation to contribute more actively to their communities and the economy.

The NAWOJ FCT Chairperson also appreciated the Director-General for accepting to serve as Patron of the association, while reaffirming the commitment of the group to promote the Council’s developmental programmes through responsible journalism.

Responding on behalf of the Director-General, Chinyere Nnamdi-Anum, Director of Corporate Affairs at RMRDC, commended NAWOJ FCT for its impactful grassroots engagement and assured the association of the Council’s continued support and collaboration.
