Abuja Summit To Honour Peacebuilders, Tackle Information Warfare Threat To Global Investment
In an era where false narratives can shake economies more rapidly than armed conflict, diplomacy and truth have become crucial tools for safeguarding global peace and investment.
It is against this backdrop that the Diplomatic Correspondents’ Association of Nigeria (DICAN) has announced plans to honour distinguished institutions and individuals for their outstanding roles in promoting global peace at its 2026 international conference in Abuja.
The high-level summit, themed “Information Warfare (FIMI): Strengthening Global Security, Trade and Investment Through Collaborative Truth: Role of Diplomacy, Intelligence, and Media,” will be held on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, at the Rotunda Hall of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Abuja.
Speaking on the significance of the conference, DICAN Chairman, Idehai Frederick, said the event goes beyond conventional diplomacy, stressing that the growing weaponisation of information now poses a serious threat to global trade and economic stability.
According to him, when Foreign Information Manipulation and Interference (FIMI) is allowed to thrive, it not only fuels political instability but also weakens investor confidence, disrupts supply chains and devalues national assets.
He described the summit as a call for “Collaborative Truth” aimed at protecting the integrity of international commerce and strengthening confidence in global markets.
The conference is expected to attract top diplomats including the United States Ambassador, the Chinese Ambassador, and the Ambassador of the European Union to Nigeria and ECOWAS, alongside representatives from over 100 diplomatic missions.
Stakeholders from the intelligence community, trade and investment sector, and the media will also participate in discussions on how diplomacy, intelligence, and journalism can collaborate to counter disinformation and safeguard economic interests.
Observers say the summit comes at a crucial time as geopolitical tensions increasingly shift to digital and information spaces, making truth and transparency essential for peacebuilding and sustainable investment.
By recognising peacebuilders while addressing the growing dangers of information warfare, DICAN is positioning Nigeria as a strategic centre for global conversations on diplomacy, security, and investment resilience.
