Information Minister Mohammed Idris Receives Image Maker Award 2026

At a time when public confidence in governance remains crucial to Nigeria’s reform journey, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, has said effective communication must go beyond information sharing to building trust, unity and hope among citizens.

Idris made the remark while receiving the prestigious Image Maker Award 2026, conferred on him by Vanguard Media Limited, publishers of Vanguard newspaper, during a ceremony held in Lagos.

Describing the honour as a reflection of trust and responsibility, the minister said the recognition comes at a critical moment for Nigeria as the country navigates bold reforms aimed at sustainable growth and national repositioning.

“This award is a testament to the trust we strive to build with every Nigerian. Communication is at the heart of governance, and it must foster confidence, unity and hope,” he said.

He stressed that transparency, regular public engagement and open dialogue remain essential in closing the gap between government actions and public perception.

Speaking on national security communication, Idris noted that timely and accurate information is vital in maintaining public calm, adding that the ministry continues to work closely with security agencies and media partners to strengthen confidence in government efforts.

He also highlighted the Federal Government’s communication strategy around major policy decisions such as fuel subsidy removal, foreign exchange reforms and fiscal restructuring, saying the focus has remained on clarity, consistency and credibility.

According to him, government decisions must be communicated with empathy and responsibility while helping Nigerians understand their long-term benefits.

The minister further commended Vanguard Media Limited for recognising public service and acknowledged the support of media professionals, government colleagues and staff of the ministry in advancing the nation’s communication framework.

Among dignitaries present at the event were Governors Peter Mbah of Enugu State and Agbu Kefas of Taraba State, Minister of Interior Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, Minister of Women Affairs Imaan Suleiman Ibrahim, and Bishop Matthew Hassan Kukah of the Sokoto Catholic Diocese.

Idris reaffirmed his commitment to truth, transparency and accountability, describing the award not as an endpoint, but as a call to do more for Nigerians.
