Power Grid Turning a Corner: TCN Records Drop In Transmission Losses
Nigeria’s power transmission system may be quietly edging towards greater efficiency, as fresh gains in reducing energy losses signal improved coordination within the sector.
The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has commended its Executive Director, Transmission Service Provider (TSP), Engr. Dr Oluwagbenga Ajiboye, alongside General Managers across its ten regions, for successfully reducing the Transmission Loss Factor (TLF) nationwide.
Speaking at a two-day quarterly meeting in Abuja, TCN’s Managing Director/CEO, Engr. (Dr.) Sule Ahmed Abdulaziz, described the achievement as a clear indication that collective efforts are beginning to yield measurable improvements in system efficiency.
He challenged the team to sustain the momentum by tackling avoidable losses, strengthening maintenance discipline, reducing outages, and aligning regional operations with the company’s broader strategic goals.
Ajiboye, in his remarks, said the meeting was aimed at reviewing performance, addressing operational bottlenecks, and charting a forward-looking strategy.
He urged managers to prioritise solutions over blame and intensify efforts to meet TCN’s mandate.
On workforce sustainability, Executive Director, Human Resources and Corporate Services, Mrs Abiodun Afolabi-Fadahunsi, highlighted ongoing reforms to boost technical capacity, including targeted recruitment, structured training, and retraining programmes to bridge staffing gaps caused by retirements.
Meanwhile, Executive Director, Finance and Accounts,
Mr Chuks Ochijie, acknowledged mounting financial pressure on the organisation, noting that rising staff costs following the NISO unbundling have not been matched by revenue growth.
Despite this, he praised staff resilience and expressed optimism about future improvements.
The meeting concluded with key resolutions expected to shape immediate operational adjustments and strengthen TCN’s push towards a more resilient national grid.
