Trump Orders Naval Blockade On Iran, Escalating Tensions In Strait Of Hormuz

Global oil routes are once again at the centre of geopolitical tension, as a dramatic escalation between the United States and Iran threatens to disrupt one of the world’s most critical maritime corridors.

Former U.S. President, Donald Trump, has announced a sweeping naval blockade targeting Iran, declaring that any ship attempting to enter or leave the Strait of Hormuz will be intercepted by the U.S. Navy.

The directive follows the collapse of 21-hour negotiations in Islamabad, marking a sharp turn from diplomacy to confrontation.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump stated that the blockade would take effect immediately, emphasising that the move aims to halt Iran’s oil exports, widely seen as a key source of its revenue.

He later told Fox News that the U.S. would no longer allow Tehran to profit from oil sales while restricting access to others, insisting it would be “all or none.”

The order also authorises U.S. forces to interdict any vessel in international waters suspected of paying tolls to Iran for passage through the strait, fees reportedly reaching up to $2 million per ship.

Trump issued a stern warning that any Iranian aggression towards U.S. forces or commercial vessels would be met with overwhelming force.

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has pushed back, maintaining that the strait remains open under its control but warning that any approaching military vessel would face severe consequences.

The development raises fears of a direct military confrontation in the Gulf.

With over 600 vessels reportedly stranded and a significant portion of Iran’s naval assets still active in the region, analysts warn the standoff could deepen the global energy crisis rather than resolve it.

As diplomacy falters, the world watches closely, because what happens next in the Strait of Hormuz could ripple across global economies.
