Power Sector Reform Gains Momentum As NEMSA, FGN Power Company Strengthen Safety Alliance

In a sector long plagued by inefficiencies and safety concerns, renewed collaboration between key institutions may signal a turning point for Nigeria’s electricity landscape.

The Nigerian Electricity Management Services Agency (NEMSA) and the FGN Power Company have reaffirmed their commitment to working together to improve safety standards, enforce technical compliance, and strengthen inspection processes across the power sector.

Speaking during a courtesy visit in Abuja, NEMSA’s Managing Director and Chief Electrical Inspector of the Federation, Engr. Olusegun Adesayo, stressed that collaboration remains critical to achieving sustainable growth.

He described the FGN Power Company as a strategic partner, particularly in managing key power assets and boosting generation capacity.

Adesayo also reiterated NEMSA’s mandate to safeguard lives and property through strict enforcement of safety regulations, noting that adherence to standards is essential for a stable electricity supply chain.

On his part, the Managing Director of FGN Power Company, Kenny Anuwe, stated that the partnership would prioritise improved transmission and distribution capacity, capacity building for operators, and enhanced coordination among stakeholders.

He added that the company’s role in implementing the Presidential Power Initiative is central to transforming Nigeria’s power infrastructure.

As Nigeria pushes to fix its fragile electricity system, this strengthened alliance could prove pivotal in delivering safer, more reliable power to millions.
