RATTAWU Moves To Clean Up Union Finances As Kalu Pushes Dues Reform

A union’s strength often depends on how well it manages its resources, and the Radio, Television, Theatre and Arts Workers Union (RATTAWU) says it is taking firm steps to fix long-standing financial gaps.

RATTAWU President, Comrade Prince Emeka Kalu, has launched reforms to improve the remittance and disbursement of check-off dues, describing the move as key to restoring transparency, accountability and financial stability across the union.

The union said the dues system remains its main source of funding for welfare, advocacy, training and administration, but admitted that irregular remittances and poor compliance by some state councils had weakened operations.

Under the new drive, only state councils that are up to date with remittances and financial obligations will benefit from national disbursements and union privileges, a decision RATTAWU says is aimed at restoring discipline rather than punishing members.

National Publicity Secretary, Comrade Izang Francis Atsen, said President Kalu had already resumed proper check-off payments and was building a new financial structure to ensure seamless and timely disbursement of funds.

He urged state councils and chapters to align with the reform agenda, stressing that full compliance would help build a stronger and more effective union.
