Tinubu Pushes Tech-Driven Policing As Nigeria Confronts Evolving Security Threats

In a country where insecurity continues to test national resilience, the promise of smarter, intelligence-led policing has once again taken centre stage.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has pledged a renewed push to modernise the Nigeria Police Force through increased investment in training, intelligence gathering and advanced technology, positioning the Force to better tackle Nigeria’s complex security challenges.

The commitment was delivered at the National Police Day Grand Parade held at Eagle Square, where the President, represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima, underscored the direct link between security and national development.

Tinubu stressed that no meaningful progress can be achieved without safeguarding lives and property, assuring that his administration would prioritise capacity building, deploy modern law enforcement tools, and improve officers’ welfare.

He further acknowledged the often-overlooked sacrifices of police personnel, noting that their role in maintaining national stability remains critical, even when unrecognised.

Meanwhile, Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Disu reaffirmed a zero-tolerance stance on misconduct, warning that discipline and accountability would be strictly enforced across all ranks.

He also paid tribute to fallen officers, describing them as heroes who paid the ultimate price in service to the nation.

The event, with the theme Community Partnership, Building Trust featured tactical displays and ceremonial parades, and also drew top dignitaries, including former police chiefs such as Ogbonnaya Onovo and Mohammed Abubakar, as well as senior government officials and members of the diplomatic corps.

As Nigeria grapples with shifting security dynamics, the renewed focus on technology-driven policing may well determine how effectively the nation can stay ahead of emerging threats.
