Midnight Blast Sparks Panic In Kaduna Garage, Police Rule Out Bomb Attack
In a country where security fears often heighten public anxiety, even a routine mechanical fault can trigger widespread panic.
An early morning explosion involving a compressed natural gas (CNG) bus sent shockwaves through Mando Motor Park in Kaduna State on Sunday, damaging at least two vehicles and causing panic among workers.
The incident, which occurred between 3:00 a.m. and 4:00 a.m., initially raised fears of a possible bomb explosion before authorities clarified that it was gas-related.
A garage worker, Abdulkadir Abdullahi, said the blast originated from a CNG-powered bus parked within the facility, noting that no casualties were recorded as the vehicle had no passengers at the time.
“Fortunately, no life was lost and no one sustained injuries.
However, the explosion caused panic among people within the garage,” he said, adding that two luxury buses belonging to a transport company were affected and later evacuated.
Confirming the development, the Kaduna State Police Command dismissed speculation of an improvised explosive device.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Mansir Hassan, explained that the explosion occurred at Silver Luxury Travel, a company operating gas-powered vehicles at the park.
According to him, preliminary investigations revealed that the incident was caused by a minor explosion from a liquefied natural gas-powered bus, likely due to overfilling of its tank.
Police authorities said the area has been secured, with no significant damage recorded, while normal activities have resumed at the motor park located near a Nigerian Air Force base.
The Commissioner of Police, Muhammad Rabiu, has ordered a full investigation to determine the exact cause and prevent a recurrence.
The Bomb Disposal Unit was also deployed as a precaution, while residents were urged to verify information before sharing to avoid unnecessary panic.
