Healthy Workforce, Stronger Institution: Omidiran Urges Staff Fitness As FCC Sports Club Names Her Patron
A healthy workforce is increasingly recognised as a key driver of productivity, and the leadership of the Federal Character Commission (FCC) believes sports can play a crucial role in achieving it.
The Executive Chairperson of the FCC, Hulayat Motunrayo Omidiran, has called for periodic exercise and stronger participation in sporting activities among staff to promote healthy living and teamwork within the Commission.
Omidiran made the call in Abuja when members of the FCC Sports Club paid her a courtesy visit at the Commission’s headquarters and formally decorated her as the Patron of the club.
Commending the initiative, the FCC boss described sports as a powerful tool for building discipline, unity and teamwork within institutions.
“Sports teach discipline, unity and selflessness. When you play as a team, you learn to think beyond yourself and work for the success of others.
These are values we also need in our daily work and in the way we serve the nation,” she said.
She stressed that integrating periodic exercise into staff routines would enhance well-being and improve overall productivity.
According to her, a healthy workforce remains better focused and positioned to deliver effectively on the Commission’s mandate.
Omidiran also advocated inclusive sporting activities that can accommodate staff across different age groups, noting that physical activity should not be limited to the young.
“As we grow older, we can move from one activity to another, walking, golf or other games that keep us active. What matters is that we remain engaged, healthy and connected,” she added.
Earlier, the Sports Manager of the FCC Sports Club, Jamilu Musa Abdullahi, said the club seeks to strengthen teamwork and promote a healthy lifestyle among staff through sporting activities.
He thanked the Executive Chairperson for receiving the delegation and accepting to serve as Patron of the club.
Other members of the delegation included Jummai Nankat, Obi Chukwutem, Linda Samuel, Yahaya Adamu Ano, John Akerejola, Maxwell Ibe and Ubong Okon.
