IGP Appoints DCP Anthony Okon As New Force Public Relations Officer

In a move that underscores the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to strengthening its communication architecture, the Inspector-General of Police has approved the posting of a new Force Public Relations Officer at the Force Headquarters in Abuja.

A police message dated March 7, 2026, seen by our reporter, shows that the Inspector-General of Police has ordered the transfer of DCP Anthony Okon Placid, to serve as the Force’s New Media Officer at the Force Headquarters, Abuja.

The directive, issued from the office of the Force Secretary, indicates that the posting is with immediate effect.

It further instructs relevant departments to update their records accordingly to reflect the new assignment.

The posting also places CSP Ali Giwa at the centre of the Force’s digital communication strategy, a role considered critical at a time when law enforcement agencies are increasingly engaging citizens through online platforms and new media channels.

Observers say the appointments highlight the growing importance of strategic communication and public engagement in modern policing.
