UK, Germany Reaffirm Support For Nigeria’s Anti-Terror War During A Visit To Operation HADIN KAI HQ
As Nigeria intensifies efforts to stabilise the North East, international partners are signalling that the fight against terrorism remains a shared responsibility.
The Defence Attachés of the United Kingdom and Germany to Nigeria have reaffirmed continued support and collaboration with the Nigerian Armed Forces following a rare visit to the Headquarters of the Theatre Command, Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), in Maiduguri.
During the visit on Wednesday, Brigadier Tom Harper of the United Kingdom praised the enduring partnership between the two countries, stressing their shared commitment to the rule of law, democracy, and human rights.
He commended Nigerian troops for their resilience and progress in counter-terrorism operations in the North East and pledged continued training support through the British Military Advisory Team (BMATT).
Germany’s Defence Attaché, Colonel Boris Bovecamp, said his visit was aimed at identifying new areas of collaboration, particularly in capacity building and regional cooperation frameworks to enhance operational effectiveness against insurgency.
Receiving the envoys, the Theatre Commander of OPHK, Major General Abdulsalam Abubakar, lauded the contributions of both countries to Nigeria’s counter-insurgency campaign, noting that ongoing training initiatives have sharpened troops’ skills in responding to evolving security threats.
He highlighted prospects for deeper cooperation, including technical expertise as well as equipment and logistics support.
The visit concluded with the signing of the visitors’ register, exchange of souvenirs and a group photograph, underscoring renewed commitment to a coordinated approach against terrorism in the region.
