ECOWAS Takes 50th Anniversary Message To Grassroots In Sierra Leone District Tour

Regional integration only works when ordinary people see how it touches their daily lives.

That was the spirit behind ECOWAS’ district-level sensitisation tour across Sierra Leone, as the regional bloc stepped out of conference rooms and into schools and communities to make its mission more relatable and people-centred.

As part of activities marking its 50th anniversary, the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), in partnership with the Government of Sierra Leone, carried out a District Sensitisation and Stakeholder Engagement Tour from 2 to 5 February 2026 across four districts in the country.

The outreach targeted schools, community groups, and local stakeholders to deepen the public’s understanding of ECOWAS’ mandate and achievements.

The tour reinforced ECOWAS’ commitments to peace, democratic governance, youth and women empowerment, trade facilitation and inclusive socio-economic development.

It also sought to strengthen grassroots ownership of the regional integration agenda, in line with ECOWAS Vision 2050: “ECOWAS of the People – Peace and Prosperity for All.”

By taking its message directly to the grassroots, ECOWAS aims to build trust, boost civic awareness and ensure that regional policies resonate beyond policy circles, translating into tangible benefits for communities across West Africa.
